Somalia: UN envoy meets Puntland president in Garowe
The special representative of United Nation secretary for Somalia Nicholas Kay reached Garowe on Sunday.
The ambassador was welcomed at Garowe airport by Puntland ministers and lawmakers at Garowe airport.
On reaching the presidential palace he took closed door meeting with puntland president Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas.
After the meeting Gaas and Kay held joint press conference giving details of what they discussed in their meeting.
Nicholas Kay stated that he is delighted to visit Garowe for sixth time to meet top leaders of Puntland regional state adding that they discussed political issues mainly on the tensions between the federal government and Puntland administration in North Eastern Somalia.
Puntland president, Gaas on his side welcomed the visit of Kay to Garowe and praised his role of reconciliation.
Mr. Kay is expected to meet Somali lawmakers and traditional elders today in the evening to discuss in details the disagreement that aroused after the formation of new administration consisting of Galgadud and Mudug regions.
The meeting will also be dominated by the election of Ali Khalif Galayr as the new president of Khatumo state who immediately urged federal government to recognize his new administration.
