Somaliland Seizes Jiidali Town After Control of Erigaabo
GOOBJOOG NEWS|SANAAG: Somaliland forces backed by local militia have wrested control of Jiidali town west of Erigaabo, the administrative capital of the Sanaag region, amid intense military operations in the region.
According to multiple sources, the Somaliland forces captured Jiidaali town Saturday, days after they took control of the Erigaabo. Sources said the capture of Jiidali was strategic for Somaliland to fend off any attempts by SSC-Khatumo forces to access Erigaabo.
The capture of Jiidali follows a recent conference in Eelbuh that discussed the administration and security of the SSC region under the new administration. The SSC faction is opposed to the Somaliland government.
The Sool, Sanaag, and Cayn (SSC) seeks independent control of the three regions from both Somaliland and Puntland. The Federal Government has since recognised SSC as an interim federal member state.
