Students receive awards in Mogadishu

Qatar charity has awarded 145 students in a colourful ceremony held in Mogadishu, the awarded students are among the ones funded by the charity.

The ceremony was attended by Somalia’s ambassador to Qatar Omar sheikh Idiris, officials from Qatar charity and civil society.

The awarded students were selected from those who sat for 2013-2014 examinations.

Some of the students while giving speech during the ceremony thanked Qatar charity for their efforts to help Somali orphans and vulnerable children.

The awards to the outstanding students were handed out by the ambassador Omar Sheikh Idiris and the director of Qatar charity office in Mogadishu Mohamed Hussein Omar.

The director of Qatar charity said they will hold such ceremony annually  to encourage the sponsored students to work hard.

The ambassador Mr. Idiris praised Qatar charity for giving a helping hand to the vulnerable people in Somalia especially the orphans with no one to take care of.

This ceremony comes a time when a new acting ambassador of Qatar who arrived Mogadishu yesterday took special meeting with Somali foreign minister, Qatar is expected to open its embassy in the capital the coming few days.
