Thousands of Ethiopian Troops Cross Into Somalia
Reports from Gedo indicate that more than 3 thousand Ethiopian troops have crossed into Somalia in what is the clearest indication yet of an imminent offensive against Alshabab .
The troops armed with heavy weaponry and armored vehicles have already reached the town of Luq in Gedo according to residents.
Officials from Federal government and Interim Jubbaland administration in the region had early told Goobjoog News of their plans to attack Alshabab’s last stronghold of Bardhere, the agricultural town that lies beside river Jubba, a town considered to be the bread basket of Somalia.
The deputy president of Jubbaland Abdullahi Fartag has been camping in army barracks in Dollow and was pictured in military fatigue as he mobilized the Somali troops there.
Last month Ahmed Mohamed Islam, the president of Jubbaland was in Addis Ababa and signed a deal that had one article that says Ethiopia would help dislodge Alshabab from Gedo and Jubba regions in an offensive to be started in July.
