Two more succumb to hunger, drought in Dhusamareb
GOOBJOOG NEWS/DHUSAMAREB: Two more people have died of hunger in IDP camps in Dhusamareb as drought continues to bite.
While confirming the incident, Dhusamareb District Commissioner Abdirahman Ali Mohamed, (Geedaqorow) disclosed that the two died due to prolonged effects of starvation.
Abdirahman Ali was accompanied by MP Barakaqabe, with whom they had gone to inspect the IDP camps in Dhusamareb after reports emerged that two people had died due to lack of food.
The IDPs, through their chairman, Mohamed Shiqow, called on concerned authorities particularly the Galmudug administration and Aid Agencies, to intervene before the situation deteriorates further.
MP Barakaqabe called on the Dhusamareb administration and the Federal Government to offer immediate assistance to the IDPs who were forced out of their homes by drought and Al-Shabaab.
On his part, the Dhusamareb District Commissioner pledged his administration’s support, and called on all the relevant stakeholders including the Federal Government to provide immediate assistance to the IDPs in Dhusamareb.
The incident adds to the growing number of people reported to have succumbed to drought in the country in the past few weeks, even as the country grapples with a much-delayed electoral process.
