U.S. Diplomat Visits Somali Embassy in Nairobi for Talks on Security Cooperation

GOOBJOOG NEWS | NAIROBI: A senior U.S. diplomat has held talks with Somalia’s ambassador in Nairobi on bilateral relations and Washington’s support for Somalia’s security efforts, including the fight against Al-Shabaab.

Ruth Anne Stevens Klitz, Deputy and Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Somalia, visited the Somali Embassy in Nairobi, where she met Ambassador Jabriil Ibrahim Abdulle.

The meeting focused on Somalia-U.S. relations and cooperation, with particular attention to U.S. support for Somali security forces and counterterrorism operations against Al-Shabaab.

The visit comes as Somalia continues efforts to strengthen its security institutions and expand its capacity to lead military operations against Al-Shabaab, while maintaining security partnerships with international allies.

The two officials also discussed shared interests and ways to deepen diplomatic cooperation between Mogadishu and Washington.

The visit underscores the continued U.S. engagement with Somalia at a time when security cooperation remains a central component of the bilateral relationship.
