U.S lauds new Galmudug deal, expresses support
The US has expressed commitment to supporting the newly reached deal between the Federal Government and Alhu Sunna that grants the group 20 seats in a new Galmudug parliament.
In a statement from the U.S embassy in Somalia, ambassador Donald Yamamoto welcomed the agreement terming a product of hardwork.
The United States is committed to supporting these efforts and ensuring their implementation for the peace and stability of Somalia,” the statement read in part. “The United States applauds the hard work of negotiators to reach an inclusive agreement that ensures the long-term stability and prosperity of Galmudug state, an important front for our combined efforts in fighting al-Shabaab.”
Noting Galmudug ‘remains a critical region for future development of Somalia, the U.S diplomat said, “U.S. Embassy remains committed to facilitating humanitarian aid, security assistance, and economic development for the people of Galmudug.”
The agreement unveiled Thursday will see Alhu Sunna get 20 seats in new Galmudug parliament.
