U.S run military base in Somalia under attack
Al-Shabaab militants attacked a U.S run military base in Somalia’s Lower Shabelle region Monday morning leading to a deadly clash with casualties reported.
A man who was near the scene told Goobjoog News the militants drove two trucks loaded with explosives into the Baledogle military camp Monday morning.
“I was about 300 metres away when two trucks drove into the camp. The trucks which were seconds apart were like the one used in the October 14 attack in Mogadishu,” the man who did not wish to be named told Goobjoog News. Over 600 people were killed October 14, 2017, when a truck loaded with explosives burst at Zoobe junction in Mogadishu.
According to the source, heavy fire exchange ensued before the militants retreated. Baledogle camp was built and run by U.S army.
Foreign Policy magazine reported last year the U.S Defence Department awarded a $12 million contract for “emergency runway repairs” at Camp Baledogle.
