Uganda chief forces discusses with Barawe administration over security

The Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF),  Katumba Wamala has held a meeting with Barwe administration officials, to discuss ways of securing the town.

Barwe Deputy district commissioner, Bashiir Mohamed Yussuf said the sides discussed on how to tackle the threat posed by Al-Shabaab fighters.

“The meeting with the Ugandan chief force provided a key avenue to discuss issues affecting the region, ways of improving partnership with AMISOM as well as key action points necessary to intensify the fight against terrorist group Al Shabaab,” said Yussuf.

He appreciated the support the Barawe administration was receiving from AMISOM.

“Sometimes there are operational difficulties but we hope that SNA and AMISOM can address them” said Yussuf.

On Thursday, Wamala inspected defence positions of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) in Barawe.

He was accompanied by MISOM Force Commander Lt. Gen. Osman Noor Soubagleh and Col. Shadrack Othieno Mutacho, the AMISOM Chief of Operations on his tour.

Barawe was captured by SNA and AMISOM from Al-Shabaab in October 2014.
