UK commits $100M investment aid to Somalia
GOOBJOOG NEWS | LONDON: The United Kingdom has announced a $100 million investment aid to Somalia which will fund various development projects, economic infrastructure and agricultural development.
During a meeting with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in London, Federal Republic of Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud presented Somalia’s strategic focus on transitioning emergency aid initiatives into long term development projects for enduring benefits to the Somali people.
President Mohamud, who spoke during the International Conference on preventing food shortage and disasters also addressed the various challenges such as famine, insecurity and flooding facing the Somali people and the efforts made by the Federal Government to mitigate its effects.
He noted that Somalia can be at the center of international efforts to eradicate hunger, and ensure sustainable energy and agriculture.
The president further stated that the Somali Army has liberated more than 70 districts and areas that are rich in agricultural crops, which Al-Shabaab militants previously controlled and hence impacted on Agriculture production by the residents.
