GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The United Kingdom has reaffirmed its commitment to support the Federal Government of Somalia’s continued stabilization and state building efforts.

Speaking after a meeting with Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister Salah Jama in Mogadishu Wednesday, UK Ambassador to Somalia Mike Nithavrianakis emphasized the UK’s support in helping Somalia achieve sustainable progress in establishing a more inclusive and democratic governance framework, as well as reinforcing Somalia’s institutional and security structures.

The discussion also touched on ways of advancing the “One Person, One Vote” (1P1V) election system, finalizing Somalia’s constitutional review process, and fostering ongoing stabilization efforts in the country.

Political leaders in Somalia have already reached an agreement on a framework for the country’s first national one-person, one-vote elections following National Consultative Council meetings led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

Both government and federal member states agreed on the introduction of direct universal suffrage ahead of local elections set for June 2025.
