A wanted terror suspect escaped a dawn raid by anti-terror police in Floringi village, near Bondeni, Mombasa on Sunday.
His younger brother was shot dead as he tried to hurl a grenade at the police. The grenade did not explode.
The Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) had stormed the house after suspecting the suspect was holed inside.
Mombasa county police commander Robert Kitor has confirmed the incident.
Police say suspect was trained in Somalia by Islamist militant Al-Shabaab and had in turn trained his younger brother after returning to Kenya.
