WFP to support Somalia’s efforts to achieve food security
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The World Food Program (WFP) has promised to support the Federal Government of Somalia’s efforts to achieve food security in the country.
WFP Executive Director Cindy McCain who spoke while meeting President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in Mogadishu said the global body was impressed by the efforts by government to ensure people who are in dire need of humanitarian aid get help.
President Mohamud briefed the WFP delegation on the progress made by his government in implementing food programs in Somalia and dealing with challenges caused by climate change and food shortage.
The World Food Program has been active around the Horn of Africa which have faced unprecedented climate impact due to long dry spells, and support from donors such as the United States and Germany have assisted in preventing starvation in the affected areas.
