200 Al-Shabaab terrorists killed as new offensive begins in Middle Shabelle
GOOBJOOG NEWS|BELETWENE: The Somali National Army made huge security gains Sunday after it killed 200 Al-Shabaab terrorists in a special operation near Jicibow village in BuloBurde district, Hiiraan region, with the support of clan vigilantes.
SNA officials confirmed to State Media that some members of the terrorist group had already surrendered to the government and more run-aways from the group were expected to renounce their evil ways as SNA encircled the area, blocking roads and river crossings used by the militants.
As the fight against the group gains momentum in Hiiraan region, a large contingent of SNA troops were yesterday reported to be heading to the Middle Shabelle region, where another offensive against the group, with the support of locals, has already begun.
The army banks on the vigilantes’ local knowledge while supporting the group with back-up weaponry. There have been initial successes, including towns in central regions cleared of roadblocks imposed by the Al-Qaeda-linked group.
