A bill limiting foreign workers in the country tabled for its 2nd reading
A bill which will limit foreign workers working in the country was passed in second reading at the House.
The bill drafted by Somalia Ministry of Labour directs all Foreigner workers to get Visas and work permit before they commence their work.
It also (if passed) prohibits foreign nationals taking local jobs which the local professionals can do.
Somalia has been haven for foreign nationals since the collapse of central government in 1991 with many of them working internationals and local NGOs as well as companies.
Many NGOs and companies underestimate locals when it comes to job recruitment arguing the locals have low education standards and can’t march their foreign counter parts.
The new law heaved heavy sigh of relief to locals with more chances going to locals as the country rise from the dust after more than two decades of civil war.
