Al-Shabaab militants ambush AMISOM convoy in M. Shabelle

Al-Shabab fighters early Sunday ambushed AMISOM convoy in Middle Shabelle region.

Dozens of armed Al-Shabab fighters attacked a convoy carrying Djiboutian troops at the outskirts of Jalalaqsi town in the Middle Shabelle region.

”We heard heavy gun battles that lasted for hours. All the residents were in a state of fear and shock,” said one resident in Jalalaqsi where the attack took place.

At least 6 people were injured but it was not immediately clear if they were civilians or the armed groups.

Al-Shabab fighters have claimed through their media that they have killed several Djibouti troops and destroyed their military trucks.

AMISOM officials are yet to comment on the incident.

Al-Shabab has been targeting Somali government and AMISOM troops in southern Somalia.
