Appeals Court in Mogadishu Upholds Sentencing of Immigration, Treasury Officials

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Court of Appeal in Mogadishu has upheld jail terms for Ministry of Finance, Central Bank, Immigration and Citizenship Agency officials who had earlier been sentenced by a lower court.

Banaadir Regional Court upheld the sentencing Abdullahi Mohamud Osoble who served as the director of foreign affairs in the Department of Immigration and his deputy Omar Maalin Noor who were each handed one-year jail terms.

In the second case, Sabir Hassan Abdinur who headed the Visa Extension and Verification in the Department of Immigration got a reprieve after the court reduced his jail term from three-and-a-half- to two and half years.

Abukar Mohamed Ali, who headed the revenue collection for the Ministry of Finance at Aden Adde Airport also had his term reduced from eight to six years while Mohamed Aden Abdullahi, who was the manager of the Central Bank at Aden Adde Airport branch saw his term in the freezer increased from 8 months to one year.
