Journalist Shot Dead by Armed Guard in Galgaduud Region
GOOBJOOG NEWS | GALGADUUD: A journalist has been shot dead by an armed guard at an orphans’ center in Abudwaq district of Galgaduud region.
Preliminary information indicates that the Journalist identified as Abdikarin Ahmed Bulhan who was also a peace advocate and journalist working for State Media was gunned down following a dispute between the media practitioner and the guard stationed at the center.
The Somali Media fraternity mourned Bulhan’s death describing him as a dedicated media practitioner and a prominent personality known for his philanthropic efforts and advocacy for peace in Abudwaq and the broader Galmudug region.
The Somali Journalists’ Union (NUSOJ) has condemned the senseless act of violence and called for swift legal action to be taken against the guard stressing the need for accountability in cases of violence against journalists in Somalia – who play a crucial role in upholding transparency and democracy.
At the same time, the Federal Republic of Somalia Ministry of Information sent its condolence message to the journalist’s family and friends, describing him as respected peace advocate and journalist.
