GOOBJOOG NEWS/BELETWEYNE: Reports emerging from Somalia’s central town of Beletweyne, Hiiran region say that the Police Commandant, Mohamed Hussein Durdage, has been shot dead by officers from the Turkish trained Haram’ad paramilitary unit under unclear circumstances.

Durdage was killed in his office at the Beletweyne police station during an in-fighting between Haram’ad and Beletweyne police over what has been described as a misunderstanding, which resulted in some people being detained at the station.

Reports say that the situation is still tense over the killing of the Beletweyne police officer and sporadic gunfire could be heard in the city in central Somalia.

Farmaajo and Fahad have been accused of sending 100 Turkish-trained paramilitary police to Beletweyne to rig the elections there, a move condemned by a majority of Somalis, including Prime Minister Roble.

The incident comes at a time when the HirShabelle President Ali Gudlawe Hussein, is currently in the town and has held reconciliatory meetings with the people of Beletweyne, following a series of meetings in Hiraan.
