Defence Minister Fiqi Marks Army Anniversary, Pledges Support for Troops
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal government of Somalia Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi has congratulated members of the Somali National Armed Forces on the 66th anniversary of the army’s founding, highlighting its role in protecting the country and preserving national unity.
In a statement, Fiqi said the anniversary reflects the history and sacrifices of the armed forces, recognising their contribution to defending sovereignty and maintaining stability.
He also reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government of Somalia to strengthening the military, including improving equipment, capacity and the welfare of personnel.
The anniversary comes as Somali forces continue operations against Al-Shabaab and take on increasing security responsibilities across the country.
The federal government has in recent years prioritised rebuilding the armed forces as part of broader efforts to stabilise Somalia and transition security duties from international partners to national institutions.
