GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Federal Government of Somalia is seeking stronger cooperation between federal and regional governments to improve access to essential services, as authorities work to turn national development targets into tangible gains for communities across the country.

Second Deputy Prime Minister Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi opened the second annual conference on intergovernmental coordination for social services in Mogadishu on Saturday, urging government institutions to improve cooperation and accountability.

The conference is focused on aligning federal and state efforts with Somalia’s National Transformation Plan (NTP) for 2025–2029, which sets out the government’s development priorities.

Haji Abdi said Somalis expected the government to deliver quality services across the country, with particular attention to vulnerable communities. He called on public institutions to strengthen coordination and monitor decisions more closely to ensure commitments translate into measurable results.

Improving service delivery remains a major challenge for Somalia, where decades of conflict, recurrent droughts and displacement have weakened public institutions and left many communities with limited access to healthcare, education, clean water and other basic services.

The federal government and the country’s federal member states share responsibility for delivering services, making coordination important to avoid gaps in planning and implementation.

The National Transformation Plan provides a framework for advancing governance, economic development and public services over the five years to 2029. Its implementation will depend in part on whether government institutions can coordinate priorities, allocate resources effectively and track progress.

The conference brings federal and regional officials together to address those challenges, with the government emphasising accountability and practical results as it seeks to improve living conditions across Somalia.
