Defence Minister Fiqi Praises AU-Backed Troops During Baidoa Visit
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi has praised the role of African Union-backed forces during a visit to a mission base in Baidoa, highlighting their contribution to ongoing security operations.
At the Sector 3 headquarters of the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia, the minister met with Commander Brigadier General Teklu Hurisa Janka and was briefed on operations and cooperation with Somali troops.
Fiqi commended both AUSSOM personnel and the Somali National Armed Forces for their coordination in the fight against militant groups, describing their efforts as critical to maintaining stability in South West State.
He also stressed the importance of sustaining joint operations, saying continued collaboration between Somali and African Union forces would be key to securing further gains on the ground.
The visit forms part of broader efforts by the government to reinforce partnerships with international allies as it presses ahead with its counter-insurgency campaign.
