Demos break out in Hargeisa in support of army following ouster in Laas’anod
GOOBJOOG NEWS|HARGEISA: Government-backed demonstrations broke out in Hargeisa the capital of Somaliland in support of the National Army following their defeat in the Sool region on Friday.
Flag-waving residents poured into the streets chanting support for the national army and calling for the protection of ‘our territory.’
The demonstrators most of which gathered at Khairiya square urged the country’s leadership to mobilise more support for the army. The protests followed the deadly fighting on Friday which saw the SCC-Khatumo fighters wrest control of Gojacade, Maraaga and other areas on the outskirts of Laas’nod town.
The SCC-Khatumo fighters later displayed military ware and soldiers it claimed were from the Somaliland army who were captured during the fighting.
Somaliland President Muse Bihi rallied the opposition in support of the military on Saturday after a meeting with Waddani party leader Abdirahman Irro.
