DP world official shot dead in Bosaso, Somalia
A senior representative of Dubai-based harbour operator DP World Ltd was early Monday killed in the port town of Bosaso in Somalia’s semi-autonomous region of Puntland, police said.
Police officers in Bosaso confirmed that a young man armed with a pistol opened fire on the manager as he was walking near the port and also one of his guards was wounded in the attack.
The assassin was killed at the scene shortly after killing the DP World official and wounding three of his bodyguards, police said.
Al-Shabaab extremist group has immediately claimed the responsibility of the assassination of the DP world director who was identified as Mr Paul anthony Fermosa.
A unit of Dubai’s state-owned DP World won a 30-year concession in 2017 to develop and manage a multi-purpose port in Bosaso, Puntland’s commercial capital.
DP World has a similar accord for Berbera port in the neighbouring Somali territory of Somaliland.
