GOOBJOOG NEWS|MIDDLE SHABELLE: Ethiopian Air Force carried out airstrikes against Al-Shabaab targets in the Middle Shabelle region, the first in a long time as the fight against the militants intensified.

According to multiple sources, the Ethiopian Air Force launched the strikes in parts of the Middle Shabelle region, but there was no report of any casualties.

The strikes come as Ethiopia maintains its position in the African Union Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) following the restoration of relations with Somalia.

According to the new arrangement, Ethiopia has been allocated slightly above 1,000 slots for troops in the AUSSSOM. Reports also indicate the Somalia government was keen on moving the Ethiopian contingent to the HirShabelle state from its Gedo, Bay and Bakool regions, where they have been stationed since they joined AUSSOM predecessor, AMISOM in 2013.
