Federal Government Steps Up Baidoa Security after Regional Leadership Change
GOOBJOOG NEWS | BAIDOA: Federal Government of Somalia Speaker of the House of the People, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), met senior security commanders in Baidoa to review the situation in South West State and push for strengthened operations following recent political changes.
The talks centred on maintaining stability in Baidoa and surrounding areas after the departure of former regional president Abdiaziz Mohamed Hassan Laftagareen, a transition that has prompted heightened security coordination.
Military officials briefed the speaker on recent gains, including the reopening and securing of the strategic road linking Mogadishu and Baidoa, previously targeted by Al-Shabaab militants. The route is a key supply and transport corridor in southern Somalia.
Madoobe praised the Somali National Army and allied forces for what he described as progress in restoring order, and called for sustained operations to prevent a resurgence of militant activity.
Regional police commander Sadiiq Adan Ali Doodishe instructed security personnel to intensify patrols and reinforce measures to protect civilians, underlining the need for vigilance as the situation evolves.
Federal officials said efforts are under way to strengthen coordination among security agencies, expand intelligence-sharing and increase joint operations to avoid security gaps during the transition period.
The meeting, which brought together senior officers from multiple security branches, reflects broader efforts by federal and regional authorities to ensure continuity of governance and stability in Baidoa, the administrative capital of Bay region.
