Federal polls body rejects results of Fahad Yassin, stands firm on earlier decision of delaying elections

GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: The Somali Federal Electoral body has dismissed the election results of HOP#86 seat which was won by Ex-NISA boss and current National Security Advisor to President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, Fahad Yassin.
The electoral body took to its Facebook page and said that it stood firm on its earlier position of delaying the elections for Hop#86, adding that it will not recognize the outcome of the particular seat.
The Federal elections body has however, said it only recognized the election results of the five other seats which were elected alongside the HOP#86 seat in Beletweyne on Sunday.
The Federal Electoral body and Prime Minister Roble had earlier called on Hirshabelle State to delay holding elections for the seat pending the determination of complaints lodged by some quarters. However, the request fell on deaf ears as the Hirshabelle state elections committee defied the directive and proceeded with the elections.
To the chagrin of democracy enthustiasts, Yassin Farey, who is accused of rigging the election and is also facing pending accusations over the murder of a juniour NISA employee, emerged winner of seat HOP#86 after he received 70 votes, while his closest challenger, Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed received 24 votes.
The election of Fahad took place hours after a deadly bomb attack left 15 people dead and scores injured in a restaurant in Beletweyne, where some politicians and traditional elders were present.
Farah Abdulkadir, the previous owner of the HOP#86 seat and a once powerful justice minister is currently in India on medical grounds.
