FGS and FMS leaders expected in Garowe ahead of Thursday’s crucial meeting
Federal and state leaders are expected to head to Garowe today ahead of tomorrow’s crucial meeting bringing together leaders from the two levels of government for the first time in close to a year.
Puntland president Sai’d Deni who is hosting the meeting announced last week President Mohamed Farmaajo and Federal Member State presidents will be meeting in Garowe for a bonding meeting after two years of souring relations.
Sources have told Goobjoog News Jubbaland’s Ahmed Madobe and his Galmudug counterpart Ahmed Haaf are expected to arrive in Garowe in the coming hours.
The meeting comes barely a fortnight after the FMS leaders snubbed the National Security Council convened by President Farmaajo. The leaders instead headed to Nairobi.
A similar meeting was earlier slated for March but it was put off in unclear circumstances.
Tomorrow’s meeting is expected to turn a new chapter of relations between the two levels of government which have been frosty since the onset of the Gulf Crisis in June 2017. Former President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed last week called on President Farmaajo to ‘listen to counsel’ noting the country was headed towards a wrong direction. His successor, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud appealed to Farmaajo to be tolerant to criticism and allow more political space in the country.
