Al-Shabaab clash with Ma’awisley militia in Beletweyne

GOOBJOOG NEWS|HIIRAAN: Reports have surfaced that there is currently heavy fighting between the Ma’awisley militia and Al-Shabaab fighters on the outskirts of Beletweyne town, Hiiraan region.

Locals say fighting broke out in El Adde area after Al-Shabaab fighters launched an assault on the Ma’awisley militias, resulting in a full-blown war between the two sides.

Seven people have so far been confirmed dead in the fighting, while several others are reported injured, even though it is yet to be confirmed which side has suffered casualties.

The situation on the ground is currently tense, with some sources saying people have begun fleeing from the area for fear of being caught in the fierce fighting that is going on at the moment.

The recent fighting comes days after government forces and Hir-Shabelle authorities announced that they had successfully liberated several areas in the region of Hiiraan from the Al-Qaeda-linked group, Al-Shabaab.
