Finance Minister Egeh Holds Talks With IMF, WB and U.S. Treasury Officials in Washington

GOOBJOOG NEWS | WASHINGTON: Somalia’s Finance Minister Bihi Egeh held a series of meetings with IMF and World Bank senior officials as part of the annual Spring Meetings in Washington.

The Minister said the meetings were instrumental in briefing the two Bretton Woods institutions on Somalia’s development progress, especially after the completion of the debt relief process in 2023.

“We discussed the status and progress of the IMF Successor program, domestic revenue mobilisation and administration innovation, improving public financial management further, and financial sector development,” the Minister said.

He added that ‘Our government is truly committed to our national economic reforms to enable growth and spur development.’

Among those the Minister met were IMF Somalia Executive Director Dr. Mohamed Maait, Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department Jihad Azour and World Bank Managing Director of Operations Anna Bjerde.

Egeh also held talks with US Treasury officials. The talks with Vincent D. Spera, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of African Affairs, focused on the the ongoing counterterrorism operations and the fight against international terrorism in Somalia, revenue mobilization and our government’s plans for growing the Somali economy.
