First Ever Open-Heart Surgery Successfully Conducted in Somalia

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Health Ministry marked a major milestone after the Tayyip Erdogan Hospital in Mogadishu successfully conducted the country’s first ever open-heart surgery.

The historic achievement marks a significant achievement and reflects the country’s achievement in delivering medical services to its citizens within Somalia.

The complicated procedure was carried out on a patient who had been suffering from a complicated heart problem and the successful operation gave the patient a new lease of life.

The operation was conducted through combined efforts of both Somali and Turkish doctors in the hospital which has offered crucial medical services to over 3 million patients.

The heart surgeon team, led by Dr. Mahmad Kislay, along with seven other specialists and the Somali heart and vascular surgeon Dr. Abdinaaf Mohamed Hussein, exemplified international cooperation and the transfer of knowledge and skills.

Tayyip Erdogan Hospital deputy director Mohamed Hussein Ashraf stated that the achievement was just the beginning of a new era in healthcare for Somalia, with more heart surgeries planned for the future, ensuring that the medical staff will continue to serve the needs of the Somali people.

The achievement also serves as proof to the resilience and progress of Somalia’s health industry, instilling a sense of pride and hope for the future of medical care in the country.
