Galmudug state and Ahlu Sunnah officially reconciled in Dhusamareeb
Galmudug state administration and Ahlu Sunnah wal Jama’ah (ASWJ) were today offcially united in a reconciliation meeting held in Dhusmareeb, Galgadud region.
The agreement was inked in an event that was attended by the federal president of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, UN Special Representative Michael Keating, regional presidents of federal member states of Puntland, Hirshabelle and Southwest and other distinguished guests with the exception of Jubbaland leader.
Speaking in the event, Galmudug state president Ahmed Duale Haaf requested from the federal government to extend a helping hand to his state after explaining deeply the formidable challenges his region is facing.
UN Envoy Michael Keating stated that a UN branch office will be opened in Dhusamareeb town, the first of its kind that will roll out projects in the region.
On his side, federal president Farmaajo noted that the local soldiers of Ahlu Sunnah wal Ja’ah will be integrated into the Somali national army.
On the other hand, public demonstration against the amalgamation process in Dhusamareeb was today carried out in Adado town, the interim capital of Galmudug state shouting out the illegality of the move.
President Farmaajo is expected to spend few more days in Dhusamareeb to settle complains expressed by some locations in the State towards the merger.
