German Embassy Rubbishes Claims of ‘English Proficiency’ Challenges Among Somali Ministers

GOOBJOOG NEWS|NAIROBI: The German embassy in Somalia has dismissed as a ‘fake’ a’ memo’ circulating on social media purporting to originate from the embassy, lamenting difficulties in communication with Somali ministers owing to their limited proficiency in English.

The embassy, which is based in Nairobi, not only dismissed the memo as fabricated but added that the person who allegedly penned it left the embassy ‘years ago.’

“The German Embassy officially declares that a “memo” allegedly coming from our office is a fake. The person named on the “memo” left the embassy years ago. We appreciate the cooperation with all partners. #stopfakenews,” the post on X read.

In the supposed memo, the author claimed that the embassy was having difficulties communicating with Somali ministers and other senior officials. It claimed that in one instance, the communication breakdown posed a ‘diplomatic challenge.’
