GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The media has been challenged to play a stronger role in promoting peacebuilding, countering misinformation, and strengthening social cohesion as Somalia concluded a specialised training programme for journalists and communicators in Mogadishu.

Somalia’s Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Daaud Aweys Jaamac, alongside Deputy Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, Abdihakim Ashkir, awarded certificates to participants who completed the “Peace Media Capacity Building” programme.

The training focused on fact-checking, storytelling, and responsible journalism skills aimed at equipping media professionals to counter misinformation and promote unity across communities.

Speaking at the ceremony, officials commended participants for their commitment and emphasised that accurate reporting and ethical storytelling are essential tools for supporting national peacebuilding efforts.

Graduates of the programme received certificates marking their readiness to contribute to society through responsible journalism and improved public communication.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts by the Federal Government of Somalia to strengthen the media sector and position journalists as key actors in promoting stability and reconciliation.
