Gunmen attack party offices in Sool as campaigns kick off in Somaliland

GOOBJOOG NEW/SOMALILAND: Armed men attacked three political party offices in Las Anod in the contested region of Sool as  campaigns kicked off in Somaliland ahead of parliamentary and local government elections.
Sources in the area said the men brandishing guns stormed into at least three offices but it was not immediately which party offices they were. One person was injured in the Sunday night incident.
The circumstances surrounding the attack were not immediately clear. Similar attacks were witnessed last year during the voter registrations exercise.
Both Somaliland and Puntland lay claim to parts of Sool and Sanaag regions and have in some cases engaged in heavy fighting.
Meanwhile campaigns kicked off across Somaliland Sunday ahead of the May 31 elections. The three political parties-Kulmiye, Ucid and Waddani were each allorted two days the national elections commission.
