Heavy fighting ongoing between Somali army and Al-Shabaab fighters in Middle Shabelle 

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Heavy fighting is currently ongoing in the Middle Shabelle region of the HirShabelle state after Khawarij militants staged an attack targeting Somali government bases in Nur Dugle area.

Government forces responded to the attack resulting in a fierce shoot-out between the two sides. Sources close to the fighting have reported that the situation is currently tense.

It is not yet clear if there are any casualties in the fighting that took place in the area recently visited by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

The attack comes a few hours after Hiran and Middle Shabelle region governors Ali Jayte Osman and Ali Mayre Makaran, respectively, met at Tardo, to discuss the joint fight against Khawarij militants.
