Heavy fighting underway between local forces, Al-Shabaab in Hiran region

GOOBJOOG NEWS|HIRAN: Heavy fighting is reportedly going on between pro-government militia, widely known as Ma’awisley forces, and Al-Shabaab militants in the Beer-Hanon area in Hiran region.

According to Hiran region officials, fighting took place after the Ma’awisley forces attacked an Al-Shabaab base in the area after getting wind of an impending terror raid by the militant group.

There have been reports of casualties, but the exact number is not yet known as fighting is still ongoing in the area west of Beletweyne town in Hirshabelle state.

More reports from the battlefields say that 20 Al-Shabaab terrorists were killed this afternoon in the Goof-Gaduud area, north of Baidoa, in the southwest state of Somalia. This comes hot on the heels of yet another raid this morning that left 49 members of the group dead in Dhagahow village, some 40 km from Bal’ad district in the Middle Shabelle region.
