Heavy gunfire as inmates attempt jailbreak in Hargeisa central prison

GOOBJOOG NEWS/HARGEISA: Tension is high in Hargeisa, the capital of the breakaway state of Somaliland after inmates attack prison guards, in an attempt for a jailbreak.

According to reliable sources, the shooting is said to have erupted in the prison’s block A section, which holds terror convicts.

Initial reports also said that several police officers were injured in the afternoon attack, after several inmates were said to have ambushed and disarmed prison guards.

Somaliland authorities have detained three journalists for covering the ongoing attack. Among the journalists arrested are MM TV journalist Mohamed Ilig, BBC reporter Hassan Galeydh and Ahmed Mohamud Yusuf, a Saab TV reporter.
