Hirshabelle health minister, deputy governor among confirmed dead in twin explosion

GOOBJOOG NEWS|BELETWEYNE: Senior HirShabelle regional officials, including the state’s health minister, are among the dead in a twin explosion that occurred this morning in the central region of Somalia.

Among other officials confirmed dead in the suicide attack is the deputy governor of Hiiraan region, Abukar Maadey.

Hiiraan Governor, Ali Jayte Osman, who spoke to the national news agency SONNA, said Al-Shabaab terrorists were responsible for today’s barbaric act. He added that “their brutal acts will never weaken public uprising” and that their days were numbered.

So far, five people have been confirmed dead, while the exact number of casualties is yet to be known. Security agencies and the regional administration are expected to release further information as the day unfolds.
