GOOBJOOG NEWS|KISMAYO: Presidential elections in Jubaland will take place on the November 25, the state electoral commission has said in what is the first major step in tearing down a recent NCC deal on unified election dates.

The Jubaland Electoral Commission released the electoral schedule setting the election of a new president for later in the month.

President Ahmed Madobe is expected to defend his seat after he secured endless term limits in July when the state parliament amended article 7 of its constitution which had initially capped presidential terms to two.

The National Consultative Council (NCC) chaired by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud resolved last month that all Federal Member State elections will take place in August 2025. Jubaland and Puntland were however not part of the deal.

Madobe was first elected to office in 2015 when Jubaland was formally formed as a Federal Member Member State. He had however been in office since 2013. He secured a re-election in 2019 and later got an one year extension in 2021 ahead of the elections in 2022.
