Lower House Speaker Condemns Political and Security Situation in Baidoa
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Speaker of the House of the People, Aden Madoobe, has strongly criticized the political and security measures being carried out by President Abdiaziz Laftagareen’s administration in Baidoa.
Speaking to the media, Madoobe who also Hails from the South West state said the developments unfolding in the Bay regional capital fall outside agreed political norms and procedures. He described the actions as unacceptable and warned that they pose a threat to stability in the area.
The Speaker’s remarks come amid rising tensions in Baidoa, where recent measures by the South West administration, including tightened security actions and restrictions on officials, have fueled concern over political freedoms and deepened friction with the Federal Government.
The statement also comes at a time of widening strains between Mogadishu and several Federal Member States, giving Aden Madoobe’s criticism added political weight as fears grow that the standoff in Baidoa could further destabilize the region.
He specifically accused the South West administration of taking steps that appear aimed at suppressing free expression and political activity. According to the Speaker, such actions risk deepening social divisions and worsening tensions at a time when the region needs calm and cohesion.
In a direct message to the South West leadership, Aden Madoobe urged the authorities to immediately reverse decisions that could inflame the situation. He also appealed to them to consider the welfare of civilians and the wider region, which he said is already facing difficult circumstances and needs unity rather than political confrontation.
