Military court executes by firing squad Al-Shabaab operative in Galkayo

GOOBJOOG NEWS|GALKAYO: Somalia military court on Tuesday executed by firing squad an Al-Shabaab operative in a public square in Galkayo, the capital of the Mudug region.

Jirau Abdullahi Ali was sentenced to death by the armed forces court in 2020 after he was found guilty of committing several assassinations and bombings in the Mudug capital. He was also convicted of killing the controversial Muslim cleric, Sheikh Abdiweli Ali Elmi Yare, in 2018.

Present to witness the execution were senior officers drawn from the military court and authorities from the Galkayo administration.

Ali Adan joins the growing list of Al-Shabaab operatives, now numbering 8, felled in the last two weeks by the armed forces court for the atrocities committed against innocent people.
