Mogadishu Port, Oman Firms Explore Expanded Maritime Cooperation
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Mogadishu Port and visiting Omani maritime representatives have agreed to explore closer cooperation in shipping and marine services, including facilitating access for Oman-registered vessels.
Deputy Port Manager Abdullahi Kaarshe hosted a delegation that included representatives from Gulf International Shipping and Marine Services Company (GISMCO), with talks focusing on boosting port usage and commercial maritime links.
The discussions laid the groundwork for increased vessel traffic and deeper trade ties between Somalia and Oman, as both sides look to expand cooperation in the maritime sector.
The talks come as Mogadishu Port seeks to position itself as a more competitive hub in the Horn of Africa, following recent upgrades in capacity and operations and growing engagement from international shipping lines.
Somalia has been working to rebuild its maritime infrastructure after decades of conflict, aiming to increase trade volumes and attract foreign investment. Oman, a key player in Indian Ocean trade routes, is seen as a strategic partner in expanding shipping connectivity and regional commerce.
The officials said stronger cooperation could help improve supply chains, reduce transit times and support Somalia’s broader economic recovery.
