Mother of ‘dead’ spy cries foul as Farmaajo’s men are cleared of alleged role
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Qaali Mohamud Guhad the mother of a female spy agent who went missing and was later reported dead by the intelligence agency, NISA has rubbished a verdict by a militar5y tribunal in Mogadishu which cleared the agency of responsibility.
Reacting to the announcement by the military court Sunday evening, Qaali said the verdict was a conspiracy between outgoing President Mohamed Farmaajo and his National Security Advisor Fahad Yasin. Before his appointment to NSA on September 2, Yasin headed the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) and had been adversely mentioned in connection with the disappearance and reported death of Ikran Tahlil.
“Farmajo, Fahad and those who harassed my daughter have come up with this, and we do not accept it, and the Somali people are not satisfied with it. While my daughter was away, these lies were being worked out,” Qaali said.
She added that the court official who announced the verdict had not been part of the investigations and was ‘being used by Farmaajo, Fahad and Kulane Jiis’, the enraged mother said. Abdullahi Kulane ‘Jiis’ was NISA deputy before he was fired by Prime Minister Mohamed Roble on July 23 but reinstated on July 28 by Yasin to become the political and security assistant.
In exonerating NISA, the military tribunal shifted blame to the militant group Al-Shabaab which from the onset dismissed accusations of Ikran’s murder. NISA announced on September 2 that Ikran has been kidnapped and later murdered by Al-Shabaab. According to the family, Ikran boarded a car outside her home in Mogadishu on June 26 and was never seen again. It was only until mid-July that reports of her missing came into the public sphere.
Prime Minister Mohamed Roble had strongly pushed for a judicial process as Farmaajo preferred an out of court settlement. The two leaders however reached a compromise mid last month to have the matter handled by the military court.
