New Banadir governor takes office officially
The new Banadir governor has been officially handed over the mayoral office in an event held last night in Mogadishu.
The governor Abdirahman Omar Osman aka Engineer Yarisow was appointed on late January by president Farmaajo after firing governor Thabit Abdi from the city top job.
Governor Osman Yarisow is a veteran in the Somali politics and is actively involved in the government for over a decade holding many positions including ministerial ones.
He was the then federal minister of Information and Culture prior to his appointment to this new post.
Osman graduated from the Somali National University in 1986 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He further developed his career by undertaking professional courses NVQ II in Business Administration and Higher Education Certificate on Computer Science in London and he further extended his education in London where he successfully completed a Masters Degree in Housing Management from the University of Westminster in 2004. He also obtained Master of Business Administration and Management through distance learning while he was in Mogadishu 2013 – 2015.
Attendants included first deputy of the Somali People’s House who is currently the acting Somali president since the two top leaders are outside the country on official duties. Other dignitaries were ministers of interior, security, HirShabelle state president, MPs, Senators and former city governors.
Somali federal president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo is currently away in Ethiopia attending the AU 30th session while prime minister is in Switzerland for the World Economic Forum in Davos.
