NISA Chief Urges Lasting Peace after Galgaduud Clan Reconciliation
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) Director General Mahad Mohamed Salad has called on communities in Galgaduud to uphold a newly brokered peace agreement after concluding a reconciliation conference between two rival clans in the region.
The talks, which brought together elders, traditional leaders and community representatives, were aimed at ending a prolonged clan conflict that authorities said had undermined security and disrupted social cohesion in northern Galgaduud.
Addressing the closing ceremony, Salad urged traditional elders to take the lead in ensuring the agreement is respected and warned that anyone seeking to violate the accord or reignite violence would face legal action.
He also called on local communities to support government efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal weapons, describing disarmament as a key step towards improving security and preventing renewed clashes.
Salad praised elders and other participants for their role in reaching the agreement, saying sustained peace would require continued cooperation between communities, traditional leaders and state security institutions.
Clan reconciliation remains a key component of Somalia’s state-building and stabilisation efforts, particularly in central regions where local disputes have periodically fuelled insecurity and hampered government operations against Al-Shabaab. The federal government has increasingly sought to combine military operations with community-led reconciliation initiatives to strengthen stability in areas affected by conflict.
