One person confirmed dead after flash floods wreak havoc on Qardho
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: One person has died and properties, including cars and houses, have been destroyed after massive floods pounded the city of Qardho in Somalia’s Puntland State, on Saturday night.
Qardho district commissioner, Abdi Saed, has confirmed the death of an elderly man in the floods that began on Saturday afternoon, adding that evacuation efforts were going on to save people in flooded houses.
The floods are said to have emanated from the Karkaar region, where heavy seasonal rains have time and again wreaked havoc on the city.
Pictures and videos on social media show furiously charged waters flowing into people’s houses, some cars dangerously floating on the streets, and others damaged.
Qardho is yet to fully recover from the 2020 flash floods that destroyed properties and claimed several lives, including three children from one family.
