PM Barre Reaffirms Somalia’s Unwavering Commitment to Defeating Al-Shabaab

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Government of Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre has reaffirmed the Government’s unwavering commitment to dismantling Al-Shabaab’s terrorist networks as the Council of Ministers convened for its regular weekly meeting.
The session focused on critical national matters, including ongoing military operations and progress in the country’s oil exploration efforts.
A detailed report on counterterrorism operations was presented, highlighting the significant strides made by the Somali National Army (SNA) and regional forces in combating Al-Shabaab.
The council commended the bravery and sacrifices of soldiers and local fighters, emphasizing the importance of continued battlefield visits to boost morale and provide direct support.
Prime Minister Barre, who presided over the meeting, shared insights from his recent visit to the Lower Shabelle region, reiterating the government’s determination to support military forces and urging council members to ensure sustained backing for counterterrorism efforts across all affected areas.
On the economic front, the Ministry of Petroleum and Minerals provided an update on Somalia’s oil exploration.
Officials confirmed that the 3D Seismic Survey is expected to be completed before the end of the year, marking a crucial step toward determining the country’s oil reserves and advancing to the next phase of drilling.
While acknowledging challenges in the process, the ministry assured stakeholders that effective solutions are being implemented.
The meeting concluded with the approval of a proposal by the Ministry of Planning and Investment Promotion to extend the tenure of Mr. Abdirahman Omar Dahir as Deputy Director of the National Statistics Agency.
His reappointment reflects the government’s confidence in his leadership and expertise in managing statistical data essential for policy-making and national development.
