PM Barre Urges Youth to Shape National Narrative at Awards Event
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has called on young people to play a leading role in promoting unity and positive values as he addressed the “Daaci 2026” awards event in Mogadishu.
Speaking under the theme “Somalis Telling Their Own Story,” the prime minister said youth engagement was key to building a cohesive society, urging professionals across sectors to contribute to social progress and moral development.
He said individuals, including business leaders, journalists, politicians and religious figures, all had a responsibility to promote shared values and strengthen community bonds.
Barre also warned of challenges facing Somalia, including clan divisions, corruption, militancy and external interference, which he said risk undermining stability and national unity.
He encouraged the use of technology and social media to spread positive messaging and counter harmful narratives, describing them as critical tools in shaping public awareness.
On security, the prime minister said government forces remained in control in Baidoa, adding that authorities would ensure stability and allow residents to determine their leadership through due process.
