President Mohamud Meets Kenyan Leader Over ATMIS Transition Plans
GOOBJOOG NEWS | NAIROBI: Federal Government of Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held talks with his Kenyan counterpart William Ruto in Nairobi to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation.
The meeting was part of President Mohamud’s regional tour, focusing on reinforcing ties with troop-contributing countries to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
Prior to his Kenyan visit, President Mohamud visited Uganda, Burundi, Djibouti, and Kenya, key partners in Somalia’s security efforts.
ATMIS is set to end its mission in December 2024 and will be replaced by a new initiative called the African Union Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
The discussions aimed at ensuring a smooth transition and continued collaboration between Somalia and its regional allies.
